Shout-Out Shepparton educates students on cyber safety

On Tuesday 9th August 2016, the “Shout-Out Shepparton” Self-Advocacy Group held its fortnightly Group meeting at Vision Australia Shepparton from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. At the meeting, Leading Senior Constable Glenn Gibson from the Shepparton Police Force come along as our Guest Speaker to provide information to the group members and our guests about Online Safety.

Thanks to the Go Digi ‘Seed Funding Competition’, the “Shout-Out Shepparton” Self-Advocacy Group invited Leading Senior Constable Gibson to talk to approximately 20 students from a number of organisations around Shepparton including Shepparton Access, Connect G.V and Wanganui Secondary School on topics such as: Facebook Safety, and the prevention of Cyber bullying, Spam and nuisance calls as well as home invasions and Fraud.

The day was very informative and a huge success, and on behalf of the “Shout-Out Shepparton” Self-Advocacy Group, we would like to take this opportunity to firstly thanking Go Digi for funding our event.  We would also like to thank Leading Senior Constable Glenn Gibson for giving up his time to come and give a talk to the group as well as Wanganui Secondary School, Shepparton Access and Connect GV for taking time out and allowing their students to come and attend the meeting. Last but not least to Vision Australia for allowing us to use one of their meeting rooms on such short notice.
